In addition, Emily assists clients who are seeking a hearing with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regarding a DWI refusal, interlock system violation, or license restoration.

After growing up in Central Florida, Emily attended The Florida State University where she obtained a degree in Psychology and graduated magna cum laude in 2009. While there, she was an active member of Chi Omega fraternity, serving as a standards board member and participating in numerous philanthropic events. Emily was also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honor society recognizing outstanding academic achievement among college students.

Emily received her law degree from The Charlotte School of Law where she graduated cum laude in 2012. During her law school career, Emily was a research assistant and earned numerous internships that expanded her passion for and knowledge of criminal law. Emily was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 2012.

After her admission into the North Carolina Bar Association, Emily obtained a fellowship at the Council for Children’s Rights defense team. During this time she gained invaluable criminal law experience defending juveniles who were charged with misdemeanors and felonies. At the conclusion of her fellowship, Emily joined Powers McCartan, PLLC.

When not practicing law, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, especially her two nieces, exploring local restaurants, traveling, and watching the Florida State Seminoles, Carolina Panthers, and Carolina Bobcats.

Although not a native North Carolinian, Emily is proud to now call Charlotte her home and use her passion for the law to defend the citizens of Charlotte. If you or someone you know has been charged with a Criminal, Traffic or DWI Offense, Ms. Bretz  would be happy to assist you through this difficult time.
